Christchurch’s median sale price rose in September, both month-on-month and year-on-year, while city sales volumes were lower. Across Canterbury, homes sold two days faster than in August but still took longer than the usual September pace.

REINZ reports that owner-occupiers and first-home buyers were Canterbury’s most active buyer groups. Open-home attendance was steady, with the strongest interest early in campaigns and for sought-after properties. Auction activity was positive in parts of the region, while clearance rates remained steady. Regional inventory stood at 17 weeks, two weeks above September 2025, with broadly steady conditions expected through spring.
